Combat eye strain, fatigue, nearsightedness, and dryness naturally.

Our eyes are our window to the world. They’re an essential part of everyday life for many of us. They let us appreciate art and our loved ones, and do things as simple as reading. While a great deal of people live wonderful, worthwhile lives without vision, most of us can’t imagine trying to function without our eyesight.

These days, our eyesight is under assault all the time. Millions of people are experiencing eye strain, eye fatigue, and the progression of nearsightedness. This is largely due to the strain technology has put on our eyes. This highly concentrated eye strain takes a toll. Over time, the muscles in the eye can gradually “retrain” into true nearsightedness. Additional challenges to eye health can be over-exposure to sunlight, and dietary and health changes. Even the healthiest eyes can expect some changes in vision as we get older, but some serious issues don’t have to be inevitable. While genetic and environmental factors affect how well we see the world, improvements in our nutrient intake can make a big difference in the health of our eyes.

A pigment in microalgae, Astaxanthin, may help with eye strain, eye fatigue, and the progression of nearsightedness. Astaxanthin is a carotenoid. It is responsible for the unique color of salmon fish, flamingo feathers, and lobsters. It works with chlorophyll in microalgae to harvest light to create food and energy, and in doing this it protects the algae from the damaging effects of ultraviolet light and free radicals. When applied to eyesight, it can protect the retina and help fight macular degeneration by neutralizing free radicals. Additionally, Astaxanthin can protect newly formed blood vessels supplying nutrients to the eye by reducing the inflammation that often causes them to burst, a common type of age-related macular degeneration.

The FDA has approved supplementation of up to 12 mg of Astaxanthin per day, noting its lack of significant adverse effects. While Astaxanthin is abundant in krill and salmon, supplemental forms are often sourced from microalgae, as it is easier to grow in a controlled environment.  This microalgae rich in Astaxanthin is even fed to farmed salmon in order to increase their “salmon color.”

Dry eyes are another severe condition that impacts eye health. This can cause irritation, redness, and fatigue in the eyes. Contact lens use is also a significant contributor to dry eyes and fatigue. But dryness can be improved with Sea Buckthorn supplementation due to its high amount of Omega 7. This fatty acid creates a rich, wet film over the eye that protects it from water and moisture loss. In fact, in a three-month clinical study on Sea Buckthorn, chronic dry eye sufferers and contact lens wearers experienced a reduction in both redness and burning sensations in their eyes. Maintaining your eyesight is one of the most important things you can do for yourself.
