Exploring the Power of Microcrystalline Hydroxyapatite.

Microcrystalline Hydroxyapatite for Natural Bone Health

Bone is such a hard substance that we can often forget that it is a living tissue. Without conscious awareness, the body is incredibly active in breaking down and rebuilding bone, which requires a lot of proteins and minerals to create something so dense and strong. In order to make or repair bone tissue, the body must make a fibrous net of collagen to which calcium, minerals, and phosphorous attach. This can be quite a lengthy process, taking weeks to convert into a hard substance known as hydroxyapatite crystals, the basis for the hardness of our bones. Commonly, basic calcium supplements are recommended for bone health but bone is a complex tissue that requires so much more than calcium, and the kind of calcium we choose matters.

A simple calcium can take much longer for the body to utilize as it makes the fibrous net, embedding the calcium into the bone. Often, other minerals such as magnesium, boron, zinc, or even Vitamin D are added to calcium to increase utilization and absorption speed. However, the ideal form of calcium to quickly repair and grow bone is with microcrystalline hydroxyapatite.

Microcrystalline hydroxyapatite, or MCHA, is a natural form of calcium that is derived from whole bone extract, so it already has the complete netting of collagen fibers and minerals to be easily and rapidly absorbed by the body. It comes in supplemental form, with additional minerals for optimal utilization. MCHA is meant to be taken for short-term periods of time, not longer than a few months due to the high mineral content, and is helpful after bone breaks, may remineralize teeth, and support stronger bones in cases of osteoporosis.

  • Promoting bone growth and repair. MCHA can help to stimulate the growth of new bone tissue and repair damaged bone.
  • Remineralizing tooth enamel. MCHA can help to remineralize tooth enamel, which can help to prevent tooth decay and cavities.
  • Protecting against osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a condition that causes bones to become weak and brittle. MCHA can help to prevent osteoporosis by increasing bone density and strength.

Supplemental forms of microcrystalline hydroxyapatite are available capsules, and even in toothpaste. As our aging bones need more support, or we suffer physical impacts, MCHA can be an excellent resource. It is well-absorbed, containing other minerals and collagens along with the calcium to immediately go to work in the body once digested.
